Goodbye Poppy

Hi everyone,

Not good news I'm afraid. As some of you read on Saturday I took my cat Poppy to the vet to be given some tablets and told that she needed to have her teeth done. I was not entirely happy then because I did not think she could have declined so quickly just because of her teeth. Anyway I persevered with the tablets but asked for another appointment on Tuesday because she wasn't any better and wasn't eating, also by now she was making a pitiful miaow which meant to me that she was in pain. The vet still said it was her teeth causing the problem even after I mentioned that she was wobbly on her legs - almost drunk looking.  I asked if she could be booked in quickly to sort her teeth out as she was obviously in pain - she was booked in the next day. My husband took her in after dropping the kids at school and nursery.
Anyway at about 10.30 am yesterday I got a phone call at work from the vet. They had done a blood test to see if she could take an anesthetic and found that she had massive kidney failure. They said they could flush them out but that wouldn't really help because they had already failed. So I had to make the decision I had dreaded but in my heart of hearts knew I had to make - put her to sleep and out of her pain.
She was a fantastic cat and helped through some rough times before I met my husband. Always there with a purp or a nudge to say hey whats up. I have some great photos of her and wanted to share them with you.
I wanted to post this in memory of my best friend. Oh dear here come the tears again!!!

Our 1st dog was Poppy and was only 3 when I was forced to make the same decision. Couldn't get the words out. Having good photos will only enhance the memories you will always have of her.

So sorry to hear of your poor cat Ali, its a terrible thing to have them put down. Years ago we bought a gorgeous kitten but he was epileptic, so after a few months I had to make the same decision. Telling the kids was the hardest part. Thinking of you

I was in pieces when my pony had to be put down. There was no choice as she had broken her leg. What made me sooo angry was the vet took nearly two hours to come. But she'd had a good life and at nearly 29, chasing after colts and looking after young foals, was something she loved! It was a big hunter that was new to the field and was bullying the younger ones and she went to the rescue. I've run out of tissues too! Your Poppy looks like my Frog. She too is always at my feet when I'm crafting, puuurrring in my ear at every moment, night or day. If I leave the room she has to come and see where I am. Cats are very special. (((Big Hugs, Lyn))
